If, like me, your first instinct was to reach for the &#8220;Check for Updates&#8221; option in your XE2 installation you may then have been confused to be told there were no updates. That&#8217;s because you have to completely UNinstall and REinstall from scratch, as mentioned in <a href=\"http:\/\/edn.embarcadero.com\/article\/41650\">the official announcement, along with download links<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nI for one am a bit miffed that this &#8220;update&#8221; could not be delivered as an incremental patch.  2.3GB is a not insignificant portion of my download allowance from my NZ ISP (45GB from Vodafone), and I am paying for the highest data cap possible (even then I routinely have to pay extra for a &#8220;double your data&#8221; block).<\/p>\n<p>Being forced to download a product installer <b>in full<\/b> not once but <b>twice<\/b> in one billing cycle is a serious impact on my data use.<\/p>\n<p>I can only hope that not all of the subsequent &#8220;frequent&#8221; updates will be as inconsiderate to those <b>not<\/b> blessed to live in a country that provides limitless, cheap data over the inter-wires.<\/p>\n<p>And I can only begin to imagine what someone who paid <b>extra<\/b> for the installation backup media is thinking, only to now find that that media is now relegated to use as a drinks coaster by this update, barely 1 month from initial release.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope that when I find the time to remove and then reinstall XE2 the effort will prove worthwhile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">[Estimated Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute]<\/span><\/span>You may have heard that the first of the promised frequent updates for XE2 has already arrived.
