{"id":574,"date":"2009-10-02T20:58:12","date_gmt":"2009-10-02T08:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltics.co.nz\/blog\/?p=574"},"modified":"2009-10-02T20:58:12","modified_gmt":"2009-10-02T08:58:12","slug":"the-turbos-success-or-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltics.co.nz\/blog\/posts\/574\/","title":{"rendered":"The Turbo&#8217;s&#8230; Success or Failure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">[Estimated Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes]<\/span><\/span><p>In recent discussions about the merits (and\/or otherwise) of a free\/cheap\/cheaper edition of Delphi, it was suggested that the <em>Turbo<\/em> editions were either a run-away and disastrous success that stole sales from Delphi or that they were a complete flop, leading to the conclusion that there was no demand for an entry level edition of Delphi.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Myself, I&#8217;m fairly certain that they were a flop, since I don&#8217;t know a single person who actively uses the Turbo editions of Delphi.<\/p>\n<p>At all.<\/p>\n<p>But I am a sample size of only one, which is not exactly scientific, so I thought that a survey of visitors to my blog might give a more indicative view.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I won&#8217;t try to pretend that any sample of visitors to my blog is in any way definitively scientific. \u00a0I will say however that if you check out my global visitor stats you will see that my blog definitely has a readership that is spread quite diversely over this bejewelled orb we call &#8220;Earth&#8221;, and sufficiently controversial topics seem to generate significant volumes of hits from those people.<\/p>\n<p>In any event, a sample of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span> size greater than that offered by my own experience will help me perhaps qualify my own opinion.<\/p>\n<p>So please, vote in the survey that I&#8217;m currently running (see the Poll in the left side-bar).<\/p>\n<p>You can choose <strong>up to three<\/strong> answers so that you can indicate your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">personal knowledge<\/span> of users of both the free <em>Explorer<\/em> and the cheaper-than-Studio but not free <em>Professional<\/em> editions of the <em>Turbo<\/em> products but can also indicate if you know of people who upgraded from any Turbo to a full Delphi or Studio Professional license.<\/p>\n<p>If you know of absolutely no-one using either <em>Turbo <\/em><em>Explorer<\/em> or <em>Turbo <\/em><em>Professional<\/em> (or everyone you know of subsequently upgraded) then of course you need only use ONE of your votes. \u00a0You don&#8217;t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">have<\/span> to use three votes just because you have them.<\/p>\n<p>Please limit yourself to personal knowledge &#8211; if your best friends sister mentioned that her cousin&#8217;s next door neighbours insurance broker is using a Turbo, only include that if you&#8217;ve spoken to the insurance broker yourself and are sure of the fact.<\/p>\n<p>Equally only count (as users) people who are (or who were) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">actively<\/span> using a <em>Turbo<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">[Estimated Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes]<\/span><\/span> In recent discussions about the merits (and\/or otherwise) of a free\/cheap\/cheaper edition of Delphi, it was suggested that the Turbo editions were either a run-away and disastrous success that stole sales from Delphi or that they were a complete flop, leading to the conclusion that there was no demand for an entry level edition of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":[]},"categories":[4],"tags":[292,92],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/p1TKYv-9g","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":533,"url":"https:\/\/www.deltics.co.nz\/blog\/posts\/533\/","url_meta":{"origin":574,"position":0},"title":"Delphi: Community Edition (A Proposal)","date":"21 Sep 2009","format":false,"excerpt":"The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things. \u00a0Of shoes, and ships, and sealing-wax. \u00a0Of cabbages, and kings. \u00a0And why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings.
