Significance of Pop Culture References"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">[Estimated Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">&lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes]<\/span><\/span><p>Michael Swindell apparently didn&#8217;t realise the risk he was taking by pointing out that <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.embarcadero.com\/michaelswindell\/2013\/10\/14\/34979\">some Delphi books had been featured in a popular TV program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t watch the show in question myself though I did enjoy the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xFyzp-dEIig\">The Walken Dead<\/a>&#8221; spoof, but I understand it is very popular.  I suspect it is this popularity that Michael was dazzled by and\/or hoping to dazzle people with by association with Delphi.<\/p>\n<p>Quite apart from the shockingly clumsy segu\u00e9 into the boiler-plate multi-platform marketing spiel, I wonder how anyone with any knowledge of the two could bring themselves to say (with a straight face at least) that <strong>OWL<\/strong> was in any way a &#8220;<em>precursor<\/em> of <strong>FireMonkey<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe in the same sense that <strong>Btrieve<\/strong> was the precursor to <strong>DB2<\/strong>.  I mean they&#8217;re both databases and Btrieve came before DB2, right ?  \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>But that aside, he appears to have missed the potential meaning that could be interpreted from Delphi books appearing on a shelf alongside other books about &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; other long-dead IT luminaries such as OS\/2 Warp &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; in a show that specifically references &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; <strong>the WALKING DEAD<\/strong> !<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Delphi isn&#8217;t dead.
